Goat Fire burning outside of Cherry on the Prescott National Forest

Saturday, Prescott National Forest firefighters responded to a smoke report on the Verde Ranger District. Spokesperson Debbie Maneely says the Goat Fire is burning west of Highway-260 and north of Cherry. The fire is burning chaparral and juniper in very steep and rugged terrain with no vehicle access. Sunday crews hiked to the fire’s location to begin suppression efforts. Smoke is likely visible from Highway-260 and communities in the Verde Valley. Maneely says the fire poses no threat to life or property. The Goat Fire was human caused and is under investigation.
