Monday night, Prescott Fire responded to a report of a tree fire located about 10-feet from a garage in Ponderosa Park just outside of Prescott. Officials say crews arrived on scene and found a ½-acre wildland fire burning just off private property in the forest. Crews made a quick knock down of the fire fully extinguishing the blaze. Officials say the cause of the fire was due to a resident who dumped their ashes earlier that day into the forest. The resident stated they had dumped water onto the ashes to ensure they were out. The public is reminded that ashes from a fireplace can remain hot for days.
