Horse fire now at an estimated 3,500-acres/”Set” status remains in place for Crown King

Prescott National Forest crews responded to a wildfire that is burning about 6-miles east of Crown King and 18-miles south of Prescott. Forest spokesperson Debbie Maneely says the Horse Fire is now roughly 3,500-acres in size and today crews are working to establish containment lines around it. A total of 4-air tankers are having to fly to the Phoenix area to refill due to the tanker base in Prescott being closed for the season. Maneely says YCSO put Crown King on Code Red “Set” as a precaution. Residents should visit the YCSO website and sign up for the Code Red program so they’re up to date on any evacuations needed or lifted. In addition, all roads into Crown King are closed to the public. The fire was likely human caused, but the exact cause is under investigation.
