Officer involved shooting Flagstaff: Update

Flagstaff Police continue to investigate Henry Russell who was shot and killed by an officer last Sunday. The 47-year old, who was armed with two knives, confronted two officers as they were leaving the Guidance Center. Russell reportedly lunged at one officer and was shot twice. An autopsy was conducted this week and the medical examiner’s report is pending toxicology. The examination found that Russell was shot in the leg and back. A look into his past discovered that he had been in and out of prison several times with the most recent incident in 2005 in Idaho when he was convicted of sexual abuse of a child under the age of 16. Russell was a registered sex offender, but had not registered in Flagstaff. It’s unclear why he was in Flagstaff. The investigation also learned that Russell had stayed at Flagstaff Shelter Services on January 28-th and had been admitted to FMC in mid-January as suicidal and for an overdose. It’s not clear how long he had been in the city. The investigation continues.
