PV to enact mobile device while driving law this weekend

Starting Saturday, using a handheld mobile communication device while driving could result in a citation in Prescott Valley. Similar ordinances have been voted into city, town and county ordinances over the past year. The goal is encourage the state legislature and governor to create a statewide law. Jerome and Cottonwood are the most recent communities implementing these types of ordinances. Both Coconino and Yavapai Counties have this ordinance in place. In Prescott Valley, the penalty for violating the ordinance is a $100 fine for the first offense and up to a $2,500 fine for any subsequent violations within 12-months of a prior offense. Prescott Valley will be conducting an education campaign through March 1-st; violators will be given a warning.
