Digital horseplay gets out of hand at Sinagua Middle School.

Thursday morning at 7:30 AM, the Flagstaff Police Department responded to Sinagua Middle School about a report of threats to a student. Sgt. Corey Runge says the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office received a report that a student had been threatened via text while on the bus enroute to school. Runge says investigators learned that several friends were engaging in a playful texting banter that got out of hand. One of the students was texting from a cellphone, unknown to the other students, and some statements were interpreted as a threat. The individuals receiving the text reported the incident immediately. Runge says the student who made the statement immediately reported himself as soon as he became aware the incident had been reported and an emergency response had been activated. Law Enforcement and staff responded per protocol and resolved the issue quickly and efficiently. The threat was identified as unsubstantiated. The school continued as scheduled with minimal disruption. Involved parties are being held accountable under the student code of conduct.
