1/17 Containment on the Horton Fire, northeast of Payson, increased to 94% Thursday. Acreage burned remains the same at 8,346. Tonto National Forest officials say containment along the Highway-260 was completed and APS helped to clear vegetation along the powerlines to further secure the lines. Work on Forest Road-284 was also completed. The Burned Area Emergency Response or BAER team’s assessment shows that 99% of the burned area soil structure remains intact. Flight restrictions were lifted Thursday and the closure order was revised and reduced.
