1/8 DPS is remembering fallen Trooper, 41-year-old Sgt. Manuel Tapia, who was shot on the night of January 7-th, 1991, in Nogales by a drug suspect he had stopped. When Tapia asked Noel Gonzales-Bernal to open the trunk, the suspect fled on foot. During the foot pursuit, the suspect shot Tapia, who died the next day, January 8-th. Gonzales-Bernal was later shot and killed by Nogales Police.
