Arizona NSA Month-Over-Month Employment Gain/Loss by Sector

Arizona NSA nonfarm employment increased by 29,300 jobs in September. Prior to the pandemic (2010-2019), NSA nonfarm employment gained 28,800 jobs on average in September. The private sector recorded a gain of 8,900 jobs in September, led by gains in Private Educational Services (4,000 jobs) and Health Care and Social Assistance (3,300 jobs). Prior to the pandemic (2010-2019), private sector employment averaged a gain of 5,500 jobs in September. The government sector recorded a gain of 20,400 jobs in September, less than the pre-pandemic (2010-2019) average gain of 23,300 jobs. Employment gains in the government sector occurred primarily within State Government (11,300 jobs).
Employment gains were reported in the following sectors:
  • Government (20,400 jobs)
  • Private Educational Services (4,000 jobs)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (3,300 jobs)
  • Trade, Transportation & Utilities (2,100 jobs)
  • Professional & Business Services (1,700 jobs)
  • Other Services (700 jobs)
  • Information (200 jobs)
Employment losses were reported in the following sector:
  • Construction (-1,700 jobs)
  • Financial Activities (-800 jobs)
  • Leisure & Hospitality (-600 jobs)
No net employment gains or losses were reported in the following sectors:
  • Natural Resources & Mining
  • Manufacturing
