The Arizona Department of Transportation advises motorists traveling on Interstate 40 near the Arizona-California state line to expect daytime lane restrictions on an 8-mile segment of the interstate beginning Tuesday, July 23, through the end of September.
The following restrictions will be in place 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays:
- I-40 will be narrowed to one lane in each direction roughly between the Needle Mountain Road and milepost 8.
- A 16-foot vehicle width restriction will be in place.
- The speed limit will be reduced to 55 mph in the workzone.
- As a reminder, Needle Mountain Road at I-40 is closed until mid-August.
The restrictions are needed as the I-40 Needle Mountain Road – SR 95 paving project gets underway. Crews will begin construction of a median crossover and drainage improvements, and install new guardrail. Paving on the 8-mile segment is scheduled for the fall.
This is the first of two I-40 paving projects near the California state line that ADOT has initiated. The second paving project, between mileposts 0-2, will start later this summer.
ADOT reminds drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution and watch for construction personnel and equipment while construction is underway.
