The Arizona Department of Transportation has started work on a new road-safety improvement project on State Route 169 east of Dewey-Humboldt, between Grant Woods Parkway and Interstate 17 (mileposts 3 to 15).
The safety improvement project, which will help reduce the frequency and severity of lane and road-departure crashes, includes the following:
- Installing rumble strips on the centerline and along the edge of the travel lanes.
- Installing new pavement markings and other related work.
As part of the project, crews will also apply a fog-seal pavement treatment to help extend the life of the roadway.
The following restrictions will be in place during the project, which is scheduled to be completed this fall:
- SR 169 will be reduced to one lane only with alternating north- and southbound travel between the hours of 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. Mondays through Fridays.
- On-site flaggers and a pilot car will move drivers through the work zone.
- The speed limit will be reduced in the work zone.
- Drivers should be prepared to stop when approaching and passing through the work zone.
- Some weekend work may also be needed.
- Restrictions will be lifted after work hours each day.
- There will be no restrictions in place from Wednesday, July 3, through Monday, July 8.
