Montezuma Castle & Tuzigoot Announce Fire Restrictions

Camp Verde, AZ / Rimrock, AZ / Clarkdale, AZ — Montezuma Castle (including the Montezuma Well Unit) and Tuzigoot National Monuments are currently under fire restrictions. The following restrictions are established under the authority of Title 36, Code of Federal Regulations, §2.13(c), § 2.21(a) and §2.38(b):

  • Smoking is prohibited in the park, including Electronic Delivery Systems (E.N.D.S), except inside personal vehicles.
  • Igniting, building, maintaining a fire of wood / charcoal briquettes is prohibited.
  • The use of fireworks is prohibited.

Fire restrictions are in place to prevent wildfires and protect the safety of park visitors and resources. Violations are a class B Misdemeanor punishable by a $5,000 fine and/or 6 months in jail. To learn more about fire restrictions and how to prevent human-caused fires in Arizona, please visit
