Click It Or Ticket Campaign And Cracking Down On Criminal Speeders

The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office along with other local enforcement officers joined the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) in urging drivers to buckle up and slow down during the national Click It or Ticket high-visibility seat belt enforcement effort. This campaign coincided with the Memorial Day holiday, running from May 20 to June 2, 2024.

On Friday May 31st, YCSO focused on a dangerous section of Yavapai County, U.S. Highway 93, in between Wickenburg and Las Vegas.  This stretch is notorious for having so many deadly and avoidable crashes.  YCSO sent several Deputies, Sergeants and Lieutenants to stop the speeders and other unsafe drivers.  On that day alone, the team conducted 22 traffic stops, 1 seat belt violation, 4 criminal speed citations, 13 civil speed citations and 4 other non-speed citations.

Total stats for the campaign – 85 Traffic stops, 36 sober designated drivers contacted, 8 seat belt citations, 9 criminal speed citations, 27 civil speed citations, 32 other citations non speed related, 3 arrests.

As a part of the campaign, YCSO documented some of the exchanges to help inform and encourage drivers to drive safely.  https://youtu.be/3Es_S2KCEnA
