Yavapai County Attorney Dennis McGrane announced on June 6, 2024 that some Yavapai County residents have recently been targeted by scammers identifying themselves as employees of the Yavapai County Sherriff’s Office. Scammers can use technology to make it falsely appear they are calling from a real phone number associated with the Sheriff’s Office, or from other numbers including: 928-361-9187.
County Attorney McGrane stated that legitimate law enforcement officers will never threaten to arrest someone unless they make a payment. Officers will also not call residents requesting solicitations or donations. McGrane stated that if a scammer calls you, hang up and notify your local law enforcement agency. YCSO can be contacted at 928-771-3260 or 928-771-3299.
County Attorney Dennis McGrane stated, “I encourage anyone who is targeted by scammers to notify law enforcement right away so the perpetrators can be identified and arrested. Criminals who try to scam innocent people out of their hard-earned dollars are despicable, and will be vigorously prosecuted in Yavapai County.”
