Early this morning, YCSO responded to reports of three juveniles suspiciously surveilling and then opening a car door at a residence in the area of Sunset and Treasure Drive in Castle Canyon Mesa. When deputies arrived on scene they found a vehicle with an open door, a broken window, damage to the ignition consistent with an attempted auto theft and burglary tools, but not the suspected juveniles. The victim also reported a wallet was missing.
Deputies canvassed the area looking for the suspects, and at approximately 3:40 a.m. they were located but fled on foot when approached. Deputies engaged in a 10-minute foot pursuit through backyards and alleys, and with the help of a perimeter established by Prescott Valley Police Department, all three were apprehended.
Stolen property from the car theft victim was located on the suspects, and the juveniles, ages 13 and 14, were charged with Attempted Theft of Means of Burglary, Theft, Trespassing, Criminal Damage, Taking ID of Another, False Identifying, and Resisting Arrest. Detectives are collecting evidence from the vehicle and the scene, and the investigation is ongoing.
YCSO believes there may be more car and property theft victims in and around the Castle Canyon Mesa and Granville neighborhoods and asks anyone with information to call 928-771-3260.
