On May 22, 2024, at approximately 5:30 pm, the Prescott Regional Communications Center received multiple reports of a structure fire in the 500 block of South Montezuma Street. Upon arrival, first responders noted heavy smoke emanating from the attic of a building located behind the primary address.
Firefighters from both the Prescott Fire Department and the Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority quickly attacked the fire in the attic, achieving a rapid knockdown. Life Line Ambulance was on standby to assist with any potential injuries, though none were reported among the public or the fire crews. The building was not occupied at the time of the incident.
A total of five engines, one truck company, and four Chief Officers responded to the incident, and the fire was brought under control within 30 minutes. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Fire crews will continue to monitor the site through the evening to extinguish any remaining hotspots.
