On the evening of 04/12/2024 at about 7:50 PM, a Cottonwood Officer conducted a traffic stop in the 500 block of S. 12th St. A physical encounter took place between the officer and the sole occupant of the vehicle resulting in an officer involved shooting. The driver of the vehicle sustained a single gunshot wound and was transported to the Flagstaff Medical Center for treatment and remains in critical condition. The officer, a 6 year veteran, sustained an injury and was transported by ambulance to the Verde Valley Medical Center and has since been released. The officer involved shooting is currently being investigated by the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
