Prescott Woman Convicted of Manslaughter in Shooting Death of Her Boyfriend

Yavapai County Attorney Dennis McGrane announced that on February 12, 2024, Shannon Marie Jackson, 45, of Prescott Valley, AZ, was convicted of Manslaughter per Domestic Violence, and sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Honorable Judge Krista Carmen.

County Attorney McGrane commended the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office on a thorough investigation into the events surrounding the shooting. County Attorney McGrane stated, “At a time when our treasured Second Amendment rights are under unprecedented attack, it is more important than ever that responsible firearms owners understand and follow Arizona’s self-defense laws. I encourage any firearm owner who is unfamiliar with Arizona’s self-defense laws to learn the law before they encounter a situation where self-defense may become an issue. Generally speaking, the use of lethal force is never warranted by words alone.”

The investigation revealed that Jackson shot and killed her boyfriend of several years on December 27, 2021 in their Prescott-area home. Jackson described the incident as a verbal dispute that boiled over after several years of domestic violence. Sheriff’s detectives found little evidence of physical abuse on the day of the incident, and Jackson admitted she had never reported past incidents of abuse.

  1. That’s terribly horrible that the law doesn’t protect women who have been abused or men for that matter but the abuse is there whether she reported it to the police or not domestic violence is very very much around and everybody is experienced it at one point in their life or know someone who has and a person can be spoken to by a psychiatrist and found that they have been abused therefore I don’t feel she should go to jail but I’m not the judge and I’m not God so I won’t be making those decisions but I think it’s a crying shame because jail isn’t going to help repair what the damage done by domestic violence
