2 Child Sex Trafficking Busts Highlight Importance For Funding

Last week, YCSO’s human trafficking detectives orchestrated two arrests for sex trafficking.

Thursday, February 29th, a Prescott Valley man was arrested for offering to pay a 16 year old girl money in exchange for sexual acts.  PANT Detectives, along with the human trafficking detectives, arrested 41-year-old Charles Mcanally. Mcanally was booked on charges of child sex trafficking.

On February 25th, a concerned citizen contacted YCSO about a man who she said offered her a date in exchange for sex work.  The woman claims the suspect asked her if she would be willing to perform sex acts with his ten-year old son.  The human trafficking detectives immediately began work tracking down the suspect.  After learning he lived in the Phoenix area, the detectives contacted Phoenix PD (HEAT) to assist in finding the man, and on February 26th, Phoenix HEAT arrested the suspect in Phoenix.

These two recent cases make 9 arrests in the past 5 months in Yavapai County, that would not have been possible if not for funding from the Arizona legislature provided for detectives dedicated solely to human trafficking, including of children.

This month, Yavapai County Sheriff and Arizona Sheriffs Association President, David Rhodes, along with other agencies and personnel, are asking the Arizona Legislature to continue the funding that allows for the great success already seen in the fight to stop human trafficking.

To help us all understand more about this issue, YCSO is creating a video series that will explain what human trafficking is and what YCSO is doing to help combat the extensive ills associated with the crimes.
