Prescott Police Chief Amy Bonney Named Arizona Chief of the Year

The Arizona Association of Chiefs of Police (AACOP) announced last week that Prescott Police Chief Amy Bonney has been named Arizona Chief of the Year.  Last Friday Chief Bonney was presented with the award by the President of AACOP at the annual business meeting of the association in Mesa, Arizona.  Chief Bonney was nominated by her peers and was selected based on her accomplishments as a law enforcement leader, her service to the association and most importantly her service to her community.

The nomination included information on several accomplishments that Chief Bonney has achieved during the past two years while serving our community and Department.  The Chief spearheaded the Facility K9 program for our Victim Services Unit that serves victims of major violent crimes.  The Prescott Police Department was the first agency within Yavapai County with a full-time facility K9 that is also responsible for assisting victims of violent crimes.

Chief Bonney is active in the community as a member of her church where she participates in their music programs and children’s ministry.  She is a dedicated member and the past president of the Prescott Kiwanis Club and a member of the steering committee for a local annual fundraiser that is in memory of the Granite Mountain Hot Shots.  She is a member of several local and statewide committees that include the Arizona Leadership and Development Program through the FBI National Academy Associates, immediate past president of the FBI National Academy Arizona Chapter, member of the Board of Directors for the Arizona Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics and the Board of Directors for the Arizona Fallen Officers Memorial.

“There is no Chief in Arizona that has earned this award more than Chief Bonney.  She has a servant’s heart, and we are proud to have her as our leader,” said Prescott Police Deputy Chief Jon Brambila.

City of Prescott Deputy City Manager Tyler Goodman said that this award was well deserved.  “Chief Bonney has served the citizens of Prescott with distinction throughout her career,” he said.  “Her award reflects upon her outstanding leadership, and service.”
