Sheriff Jim Driscoll presented the Arizona Game and Fish Commission’s Award of Excellence for his dedication and contributions towards conserving and protecting Arizona’s wildlife and outdoor heritage in Phoenix, Arizona. Sheriff Driscoll was nominated by Arizona Game and Fish Department Deputy Director Tom Finley in a three-page narrative describing his background and lifetime efforts of partnership and furthering the mission of the Arizona Game and Fish Department. Among the accolades highlighted in the nomination were the Sheriff’s 49 years of service to Coconino County, his extensive involvement in the statewide Search and Rescue Association, and tenure as a certified Peace Officer Standards & Training and Division of Emergency Management instructor. Education at Northern Arizona University where he received a bachelor’s degree, F.B.I. National Academy, Southwest Command College, and the Naval Postgraduate program were also emphasized.
The nomination states that Sheriff Driscoll is well known as a passionate sportsman, conservationist, and supporter of the Arizona Game and Fish Department. He is an avid traditional archer and fly fisherman. During his tenure at the Coconino Sheriff’s Office, the Sheriff has committed to advocating for reasonable access to hunting, angling and outdoor recreation for Arizonans and bodies of regulation that do not impede access or quality of life for citizens of our state. He has advocated for more consistent and reasonable approaches to Forest Service travel management and dispersed camping rules on the Coconino and Kaibab with reasonable winter and fire/post-fire closures on Arizona’s public lands.
