Cottonwood Police Officer Matt Watson was recently recognized by the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) organization for his outstanding work in taking impaired drivers off of the streets of Cottonwood and Yavapai County.
This past year Officer Watson has taken on the role of the 2nd Traffic Officer with plans to take on the main Traffic Officer Role from Cottonwood PD Traffic Legend Roger Scarim. With this new role in the Department Officer Watson this past year has become a DRE, SFST Instructor, renewed his Phlebotomy Certification, QAS, and is in line to Certify and become an instructor for the intox 9000, has taken on the role of the VCU (Vehicular Crimes Unit) Lead, researched and was able to obtain new updated equipment for the team and looking into funding sources to complete requested scanning equipment to make Cottonwood PD on par with DPS as far as accident reconstruction, and has been promoting an garnering interest in a regional VCU Team.
Officer Watson has shown a great balance between doing his own Department leading DUI and Traffic Enforcement and assisting other officers with Accident and DUI Investigations as well as responding and being available for Phlebotomy request for both Cottonwood and surrounding agencies. All of this while keeping a work life balance and still finding time to serve our Country as a Reservist. Officer Matt Watson has shown the ability and desire to advance Cottonwood Police Department Traffic Division and Patrol Unit into a leader not only in the Verde Valley but Statewide.
