On Monday Coconino County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call from a resident stating that their daughter’s car had rolled into Lake Mary at one of the boat ramps.
Deputies learned the 18 year old daughter’s silver Nissan Rogue rolled into Lake Mary around 3am. The vehicle was unoccupied at the time and completely submerged. The information was vague and it was unknown what launch ramp the incident occurred at.
The U.S.Forest Service responded with a boat to assist the search. Both the Coconino County Sherriff’s Office and Forrest Service Personnel spent the day searching for the vehicle between the 3 launch ramps but were unable to locate it due to the murky lake water.
At the request of the Forrest Service, Gila County Sherriff’s Office Dive Team responded to assist with the search around 3pm. A member of the dive team located the vehicle around 5:20pm. A towing company responded and the dive team assisted with attaching a cable to the vehicle. After considerable difficulty, the vehicle was removed from the lake around 8:30pm.
Alcohol is believed to be a possible factor in the incident. This case is still under investigation.
