On July 10, 2023, at approximately 8:24PM, Flagstaff Police responded to the 2500 block of E. Industrial Drive regarding a single vehicle crash. Upon arrival officers located an older model BMW passenger vehicle resting on the driver side, and three males around the vehicle having severe injuries in the northern parking area of the City of Flagstaff Aquaplex parking lot located at 1702 N. Fourth St.
Witnesses and officers administered emergency medical care to the three individuals until medical staff and fire personnel arrived. One male was transported from the scene to the Flagstaff Medical Center for continuing emergency medical care; the two other males were pronounced deceased on scene. They are identified as Kyle Ashley, 45, of Flagstaff and Chad Thompson, 29, of Leupp. Members of the Criminal Investigations Unit as well as the Collision Reconstruction Team were called to the scene as part of the investigation. The E. Industrial Drive roadway and the City of Flagstaff Aquaplex parking lot was closed for approximately three and one-half hours as investigators collected evidence.
Preliminary indications suggest the vehicle was traveling westbound on E. Industrial Drive when it left the roadway, driving through landscaping brush and trees, ultimately colliding with a steel support beam of the parking structure at the north end of the Aquaplex parking lot, where the vehicle came to a stop.
This investigation is currently active and on-going as investigators work to determine more details and contributing factors related to the cause of this vehicle crash.
