The man that struck and killed Cottonwood Police Commander Jody Makuch last year, has been sentenced to 15-years in prison. The Yavapai County Attorney’s Office says 42-year old Jason Engel pleaded guilty to manslaughter and endangerment in October. Engel ran a red light at the Highway-89A/Willard Street intersection and hit Makuch who was sitting on his motorcycle. Prior to the crash, witnesses reported seeing Engel run a second red light at the Highway-89A/6-th Street intersection, endangering several other motorists on the roadway. At the scene, Engel exhibited signs and symptoms of DUI; his blood alcohol content was .109% or 25% over the legal limit.
