Fake Fine and Probation Bill Scam

YCSO says they’ve had reports of people falling victim to warrant or probation scam. Scammers call people and tell them there’s a warrant for their arrest and if they don’t pay immediately, they’ll be arrested. Scammers will also call people to say they owe a probation bill. Public Affairs Director Kristen Greene says the suspects typically ask the victim to pay with gift cards, which is a sure sign you’re being scammed. Greene says gift cards are for gifts, not for paying any type of fine or bill. In addition, law enforcement will never call someone to advise them of a warrant or ask them to pay with gift cards.
