Scam involving The Community Services Block Grant reported

YCSO is warning the public about a scam. Officials say they were contacted by a citizen regarding a scam surrounding The Community Services Block Grant, which provides funds to alleviate the causes and conditions of poverty in communities. A friend told the citizen that a person could potentially receive $100,000 through the grant and to call a phone number in order to apply. When she called the bogus number, it didn’t take her long to catch on to the fact that this was a scam. Although the reporting party caught on to the scam, she’s concerned others may fall for it. The Community Services Block Grant is real; however, it does not provide direct grants to individuals and doesn’t charge a fee for receiving a grant.
