Wednesday, Prescott Valley Police became aware that scammers are trying to steal personal or financial information using the Child Tax Credit program as the pretense. Scammers will use text messages, emails, phone calls or social media to try to obtain your personal information. The scammer will pose as the IRS and even use a fake IRS website. The criminals will advise you to complete a form to qualify for the tax credit. The form will require that you provide all your personal information such as your social security number, date of birth or banking information. The cyber criminals may even require you to pay a fee to complete the form using a gift card or cryptocurrency. IRS will never send an email, text, call you or use social media to contact you.
