The Backbone Fire was estimated at 17,126-acres Saturday night with 0% containment. The fire was caused by lightning last Wednesday and is burning about 12-miles west of Pine and Strawberry. The Southwest Area Type 1 Incident Management Team assumed command of the fire Saturday. Evacuation orders were issued for the communities of Pine and Strawberry. Highway-260 remains closed between Camp Verde and Highway-87. The Fossil Creek recreation area is also closed.
