Tussock Fire at over 3,500-to-4,000-acres

A Type-1 Incident Management Team is in charge of the Tussock Fire, burning about 7-miles southwest of Crown King. YCSO evacuated Horse Thief Basin, Minihaha and the Fort Misery areas over the weekend and put residents of Crown King on “SET” status. The Red Cross established a shelter for those impacted at Mayer High School in Mayer. Fire spokesperson Dolores Garcia says the fire remained very active overnight last night. She says a helicopter is being used this morning to better map the fire so crews know just how active it was overnight. Currently the fire is between 3,500-and-4,000-acres. She says the windy conditions on Sunday made fighting the fire difficult and they’re expecting the same today. Garcia says crews are focused on the northern flank of the fire, which poses the greatest threat to homes in the area. The Tussock Fire was human caused and was first reported Saturday afternoon.
