Prescribed burns planned this week on the Coconino National Forest

Coconino National Forest fire managers hope to conduct several prescribed burns this week, including a highly visible project located east of the Naval Observatory in Flagstaff. The 135-acre Naval Observatory project, which will tentatively begin tomorrow, will likely cause large amounts of smoke visible within Flagstaff. The Upper Beaver Creek project, started in late April, is scheduled to conclude early this week; there’s still 1,000-acres to treat. Additionally, the Mint East Project, southeast of Mormon Lake, will likely run through the week. Crews hope to burn over 2,500-acres. All burns are dependent on the weather.
