YCSO arrest Chino Valley man following standoff with SWAT

Sunday afternoon, YCSO received a call regarding the well-being and mental health of a 57-year old Emery Dodd of Chino Valley. Spokesman Chris Wilson says officials responded to a home near West Sundial Road in Chino Valley after receiving information that Dodd told a family member he wanted to kill himself or die from “suicide by cop”. Before leaving the house, the family member says Dodd fired a handgun towards the ceiling from downstairs. Deputies quickly arrived on scene and were able to make phone contact with Dodd, convincing him to come outside. Dodd was carrying an AR-15 type rifle and was wearing body armor. The Deputies began negotiations with Dodd, attempting to get him to put down his weapon and body armor, but Dodd continued to hold the barrel of his rifle under his chin. Dodd reiterated what he told family members that he wanted to end his life by shooting himself or have law enforcement do it. Wilson says deputies evacuated residents in the area. He says after two hours of negotiations with SWAT and the Spectrum Crisis Team, Dodd put the rifle down and took his body armor off. He was taken into custody without incident. Investigators found several firearms and ammunition staged in the home following the incident.
