DPS is remembering a fallen Trooper today. Trooper Juan Cruz, along with two other Troopers, was blocking the high speed traffic lane of I-10 in Tucson with his patrol vehicle while investigating a prior collision. A westbound vehicle driven by 21-year old Marissa Rodriguez, struck the rear of Cruz’s vehicle. Cruz was sitting in the vehicle at the time of the collision and suffered fatal injuries. Rodriguez was sentenced to 11-years for manslaughter. She completed her prison term in 2009 and her parole in 2011. The crash occurred on this date in 1998.
