Phoenix man arrested after using fake ID

Saturday night, YCSO stopped a vehicle for speeding with expired registration. Spokesman Dwight D’Evelyn says the driver provided a Louisiana driver’s license that looked fake with the name Ray Stevens. A record’s check showed a completely different name and a social security number given to the deputy did not return with any record. The deputy then requested a check of Arizona law enforcement data bases which returned showing that a ‘Ray Stevens’ had an alias of Benito Yanez from Phoenix with several active warrants. A social security number from one of the warrants was only one number off from that provided by the driver. Even with this information, the deputy still needed to verify the driver was in fact Benito Yanez. Using information from the warrants including a date of birth, an Arizona driver’s license record was obtained along with a photo confirming the driver was in fact Benito Yanez. D’Evelyn says deputies noted a tattoo on the 71-year old matched information on some of the warrants. A search of the vehicle revealed a hand gun and more fraudulent items under the name of Ray Stevens.
