Tuesday night, Cottonwood Police responded to an apartment in the 1700 block of East Elm Street on a report of a burglary in progress. Sgt Monica Kuhlt says officers located 19-year old Emily Benassi inside a vacant apartment. Benassi told officers she is homeless and entered the apartment to cool off and take a shower. Kuhlt says a male companion with Benassi fled the apartment out of a bedroom window and has not been located. Benassi was charged with burglary and trespassing; she also faces misdemeanor shoplifting charges in a July 28-th case.
