Two Prescott Police Officers receive Life Saving Awards.

Wednesday, Prescott Police Officers Chad Beyea and Nicholas Cerda were presented Life Saving Awards for their quick, life saving actions during a medical emergency. Lieutenant Corey Kasun says on April 4, Officers Beyea and Cerda were dispatched to a residence in Prescott upon the report of a 74 year old man with an apparent accidental gunshot wound to his upper thigh. Upon arrival, Beyea and Cerda located the victim lying in the living room of the residence, bleeding heavily from the wound. Beyea quickly applied direct pressure to the wound while Cerda retrieved a tourniquet from his medical kit. The tourniquet was applied above the wound which appeared to have stopped the bleeding. Beyea and Cerda continued to apply pressure to the wound until relieved by responding medical personnel. Kasun says the victim was transported to YRMC and later flown to a Phoenix hospital for further treatment. Medical staff reported that the correct application of the tourniquet saved the elderly man’s life.
