Storms aftermath keeps Jerome Fire busy.

Jerome Fire had a busy weekend dealing with the aftermath of the epic snowstorm. Chief Rusty Blair says after two days of clearing significant amounts of snow, fallen trees, rock slides and rescuing snowed in residents, crews had to remove a large delivery truck that became stuck on the highway. The driver was trying to make a downhill U turn and slid on the ice becoming stuck and blocking the highway. Blair says while crews used an engine to tow the large commercial vehicle, a chain and a tow strap broke, which caused some minor damage to the engine when they recoiled. No injuries were reported. Later on in the day crews responded to a large rock fall to remove several 4-to-500 lb boulders from the highway above town. Saturated soil conditions could lead to more trees and rocks falling onto Arizona’s roads and highways, drivers should stay alert.
