The proposed zoning change for the 172 acre property west of Sedona known as El Rojo Grande Ranch has been withdrawn. Monday, the Yavapai County Development Services Department received notification that Equity Lifestyle Properties, was removing their request for the zoning change. The Planning and Zoning Commission had met previously on the change and voted unanimously 9-0 against the request. Yavapai County Board of Supervisors Spokesperson David McAtee says while the Board is not obligated to follow the decision of the Planning and Zoning Commission, they do often follow the decisions handed down. Board Chairman Randy Garrison said he is committed to working with fellow Board Members and community partners to make decisions based on what will be best for the community and widely supported by the local citizens. The requested zoning change would have allowed for a density increase of over seven times its current allowance.
