Substitute Mail Carrier arrested for theft.

Recently, YCSO deputies met with a theft victim from Kirkland who explained a pre-paid Wal Mart Gift card was never received. Spokes Man Dwight D’Evelyn says the victim’s daughter was able to find out the gift card had been used at the Wal Mart on Gail Gardner in Prescott. The reporting deputy contacted Wal Mart security and was able to obtain a photo of a female using the stolen card at the Gail Gardner store. The photo was shown to the victim and a family member and they identified the suspect as 56-year-old Lavada Pierce, the local mail carrier. The following day, a YCSO deputy conducted a traffic stop on Pierce in Kirkland. When confronted, Pierce, a substitute contract mail carrier, first denied but eventually admitted to using the card. She was arrested and booked into the Camp Verde Detention Center. US Postal Service law enforcement was notified and is conducting an investigation. The inspector has indicated Pierce may be a suspect in additional thefts and use of stolen gift cards.
