DPS released the details into the Thursday night shooting incident in Flagstaff. Officials say a trooper attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle. The vehicle stopped, but as the trooper approached the vehicle, it sped off. The suspect drove into a residential area where he and a passenger abandoned the SUV and fled on foot. Officials say the trooper did not give chase but instead set up a search perimeter. A resident in the area called 911 and reported seeing the suspects. As troopers approached the suspects, 20-year old Marcus Gishal of Flagstaff fired a gun at troopers, striking one of them in the hand. The troopers returned fire, killing Gishal. The second suspect, 20-year old Preston Oszust of Flagstaff was also struck by gunfire and is listed in critical condition. The injured trooper was treated and released from FMC. Three other troopers involved in the shooting were not injured. Gishal and Oszust both have a history of arrests with Oszust having an active felony warrant for probation violation. The incident remains under investigation.
