Flagstaff Police released further information into the fatal vehicle versus pedestrian crash that occurred Sunday afternoon on South Lake Mary Road. Sgt Charles Hernandez says 58-year old George Reed of Phoenix was standing on the shoulder of Lake Mary Road as the vehicle approached, traveling near the shoulder of the roadway. Hernandez says a witness reported that Reed ran toward the roadway to avoid being struck, but the driver of the vehicle corrected their travel onto the roadway and struck Reed. Reed was pronounced dead on scene. The driver, 45-year old Sergio Romero Alonso of Flagstaff showed signs of being impaired and was taken into custody. Charges against him include extreme DUI and manslaughter. He’s being held on a $500,000 bond.
