Sunday evening, a YCSO deputy on I-17 south of Cordes Junction was assisting DPS in locating a vehicle involved in an apparent kidnapping. Spokesman Dwight D’Evelyn says the deputy was spotlighting license plates on the interstate when he spotted a car with a Kentucky plate in the possible location of the suspect. Although the vehicle did not match the descriptions of vehicles announced in the police radio broadcast, the deputy noted it was unusual to see a Kentucky plated car at that time of night on north I-17. The deputy ran the plate and it came back to a rental car out of Kentucky. Cell phone information pointed to the car the deputy had just seen as the likely suspect. DPS troopers conducted the traffic stop and 49-year old Carlie Bentley, of Kentucky, was arrested. The teenage male victim, was taken into protective custody. The San Diego Police Department and FBI are handling the case. The FBI says Bentley used an online dating app to arrange a meeting with the teen for sexual conduct, then kidnapped the boy to take him back to Kentucky. Bentley is being held without bond in the Camp Verde Jail.
