Game and Fish has been awarded funds from the Department of the Interior for research that will help identify and conserve mule deer movement corridors and provide a better understanding of how mule deer move within their habitat. The Department will use the funding in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management and Department of the Interior to conduct a research project locally to investigate and identifying movement corridors of mule deer in relation to the high volume of annual road kills on Highway 89 east of the San Francisco Peaks near Flagstaff, and to gain a better understanding of movement corridors where deer radiate out from the Peaks toward wintering areas. These projects are part of a larger joint effort by multiple western states to identify and conserve key wildlife movement corridors.
