This weekend, Jerome Fire responded to several accidents that were the result of faulty GPS directions. Chief Rusty Blair says the first was when a woman drove over a retaining wall because her GPS told her to turn left there. Blair says the woman was not hurt but it took fire personnel over an hour to extricate her car. The other involved an over-sized truck that rear ended a passenger vehicle because the driver was following his GPS’s instructions. Though no one was injured, the car did suffer significant damage. Blair says to use common sense when using GPS in your vehicle. If something doesn’t seem right, as in it’s a dirt road instead of a main highway or the suggested turn is blocked, recheck your route.
