Wanted Cottonwood man with a rifle caught by police

A Cottonwood man wanted in Gila County and Camp Verde, was captured by Cottonwood Police Sunday morning. Cottonwood Police Sgt Monica Kuhlt says officers responded to North 11-th Street on a report that 29-year old Seth Backus was threatening another person. Kuhlt says officers spotted Backus a short distance away carrying a black gun case over his shoulder. She says Backus threw the case and ran. Backus was caught after a short foot chase and the case was recovered. The case contained a .22 rifle, a photo of which is posted on our website at myradioplace.com. Kuhlt says they’re investigating a rash of burglaries in the city and suspect the rifle may have been stolen.
