The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an ATV crash that killed 4 people and ignited a wildfire off Forest Road 300, commonly known as Rim Road on Saturday. Officials say deputies were responding to the area to assist Tonto National Forest fire crews when they learned the fire was caused by an ATV crash. Four members from a campsite in the area had been reported overdue. It’s believed the fire started after the ATV crashed and fell some 400-feet off Rim Road and down a cliff. Sunday officials said it was too dangerous to go into the crash site due to the fire. Rim Road is currently closed from Mile Marker 8 to 11 while crews fight the fire. Fire suppression and recovery efforts continued last night and will continue through today. At last report the September Fire had charred 10-acres.
