The Platypus Fire northeast of Sedona in the Secret Mountain Wilderness has now burned 1,600-acres. Coconino National Forest spokesman George Jozens says the lightning caused fire has been burning since July 28-th. He says the fire has rekindled due to the drier conditions and is the cause of smoke in Flagstaff during the day and the Verde Valley at night. He says much of the lighter fuels have burned, but the fire is still reignited some of the heavier fuels. Jozens says the fire could smolder until winter.
