A Code Red for flooding was issued in the Mayer area Thursday afternoon. YCSO spokesman Dwight D’Evelyn says at 3:45 they received reports of flooding in areas along Big Bug creek in Mayer. Deputies and Mayer Fire personnel, already staged in the area, arrived quickly and notified residents that a mandatory evacuation had been issued. D’Evelyn says this included the Stagecoach and Chimney Ranch trailer parks. He says there were no injuries reported during the evacuations and low water crossings in Mayer were shut down by deputies. The high waters moved to Spring Valley causing additional evacuations and the closure of the main community bridge. D’Evelyn says there have been reports of damage to homes in both communities, but how much damage is not known. One unoccupied vehicle was swept down creek by the flood waters, but it eventually was pushed onto dry land. In addition, deputies staged ahead of the waters in Cordes Lakes to control low water crossings expected to flood as the waters moved beyond Spring Valley. The Red Cross opened a shelter in Mayer for a short time; it was closed at around 7-pm. Yavapai County Public Works and Yavapai Emergency Management is currently assessing damages.
