Keep an eye on your child’s use of social media

A recent incident involving a runaway 12 year old girl in Prescott Valley has prompted police to ask parents and guardians to be more involved in their child’s use of social media. Prescott Valley spokesman Jerry Ferguson says the parents called police when their daughter ran away. A check of the social media the juvenile had been using revealed suspicious contacts with strangers from out of state and plans to leave the state. Detectives responded to assist with gathering electronic evidence. Family members used social media to notify other family and the public that the girl was missing. The girl was eventually located by a family friend in the Prescott Valley area. Parents and guardians should know what their kids are doing online. Encourage them to always tell you about any harassing or bullying messages that others post, or any other suspicious activity they come across in social media.
