Burnout operations near Young on the Tonto National Forest today

Burnout operations are being conducted today around the designated perimeter of the Bear Fire on the Tonto National Forest. Crews are burning along Forest Roads 416, 486 and 609. A temporary closure order is in place. The Bear Fire is located about 10-miles southwest of Young and was ignited by lightning on Sunday. Residents and visitors in Young can expect to see and smell smoke, which also will affect Payson, Tonto Basin, Pumpkin Center, and Roosevelt Lake.
